Data retention & deletion

What removing an account or khatam means, and how to ask for help.

Updated 27 October 2026

Request account deletion

Email support@khatamly.com with the subject “Account deletion”. State whether you use a host or reader account and give the email address or mobile number used for it. Do not include your password, reader passcode or SMS code. Support must verify ownership before deleting an account; the AI chat cannot perform or confirm deletion itself.

Reader accounts

Deleting a reader account removes its memberships and claims through database relationships, which can make previously assigned portions available again. Removing a reader from one khatam affects that khatam only; it does not delete their account everywhere. Deactivation blocks access and is different from deletion.

Host accounts and shared khatams

Deleting a host account also removes the khatams it hosts and their related reading records, including contributions from other readers. Tell support if you only want to leave a khatam, remove a participant or close a khatam instead. Closing a khatam preserves existing reading records; deleting it is permanent in the app.

Retention periods

The app does not currently apply a published automatic expiry period to accounts or reading records. Exact retention periods for inactive accounts, support conversations, provider logs and backups are awaiting confirmation. Do not assume that signing out deletes your records, that deleting your account erases provider backups immediately, or that chat messages are deleted with your Khatamly account. Ask support to include any chat data in your request.

Local copies and shared information

Clearing website data removes local sessions, caches and bookmarks on that device. It does not remove information already shared with other people, such as an invitation message or screenshot. Account deletion and local-data removal are separate actions.
